Sinhala Negation
Learning the Sinhala Negation is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation.
Sinhala negation is the process that turns an affirmative statement (I am happy) into its opposite denial (I am not happy). Here are some examples:
he is not here – ohū mehi nomæta – ඔහු මෙහි නොමැත
that is not my book – mema pota magē noveyi – මෙම පොත මගේ නොවෙයි
do not enter – ætūlvanna epā – ඇතුල්වන්න එපා
I don’t speak – mama katā nokarami – මම කතා නොකරමි
I don’t write – mama noliyami – මම නොලියමි
I don’t drive – mama nopadavami – මම නොපදවමි
I don’t love – mama ādaraya nokarami – මම ආදරය නොකරමි
I don’t give – mama nodemi – මම නොදෙමි
I don’t smile – mama sinānovemi – මම සිනානොවෙමි
I don’t take – mama noganimi – මම නොගනිමි
he doesn’t speak – ohū katā nokarayi – ඔහු කතා නොකරයි
he doesn’t write – mahū noliyayi – මහු නොලියයි
he doesn’t drive – ohū nopadavayi – ඔහු නොපදවයි
he doesn’t love – ohū ādaraya nokarayi – ඔහු ආදරය නොකරයි
he doesn’t give – ohū nodeyi – ඔහු නොදෙයි
he doesn’t smile – ohū sinānoveyi – ඔහු සිනානොවෙයි
he doesn’t take – ohū noganiyi – ඔහු නොගනියි
we don’t speak – api katā nokaramū – අපි කතා නොකරමු
we don’t write – api noliyamū – අපි නොලියමු
we don’t drive – api nopadavamū – අපි නොපදවමු
we don’t love – api ādaraya nokaramū – අපි ආදරය නොකරමු
we don’t give – api nodemū – අපි නොදෙමු
we don’t smile – api sinā novemū – අපි සිනා නොවෙමු
we don’t take – api noganimū – අපි නොගනිමු
